In 2019, Hasselblad introduced the 907X camera body alongside the CFV II 50C digital back. Now, Hasselblad is back in the spotlight with the unveiling of the CFV 100C digital back. Together, the 907X and CFV 100C create what Hasselblad proudly claims to be "the most versatile medium format camera" out there.

These new gadgets play nice with Hasselblad’s XCD, HC/HCD, V System, and Xpan lenses. The CFV 100C digital back even connects to the vintage Hasselblad V System film camera bodies, such as the 500 and 200 series. However, when attached to these film cameras, only manual focus is supported.

On the 907X, the CFV 100C steps up its game, providing phase-detect autofocus (PDAF) and face-detection AF. With 294 autofocus points covering 97% of the image area, it promises the same speedy autofocus as the Hasselblad X2D 100C.

This digital back isn't just about focus; it packs a punch with 1TB of built-in SSD storage, eliminating the need for a memory card. However, it also offers a CFexpress Type B card slot if you prefer traditional storage, supporting capacities up to 512GB.

Under the hood, the CFV 100C shares similarities with the X2D 100C, boasting a 100-megapixel image sensor and a maximum shooting speed of 3.3 frames per second at 14-bit. The backside-illuminated CMOS sensor delivers an impressive 11,656 x 8,742 resolution with a 3.76-micron pixel size.

In terms of ISO capabilities, the CFV 100C can go up to 25,600, offering 15 stops of dynamic range at its optimal settings. The camera's 3.2-inch TFT display with 2.36 million dots tilts at two angles—40 and 90 degrees.

Powering the device is a rechargeable lithium-ion battery with a CIPA rating of 420 shots, although real-world performance may surpass that. The dimensions get a bit tricky since the 907X and CFV 100C can be separated, following the tradition of medium-format cameras.

The CFV 100C doesn’t come without some drawbacks; it lacks in-body image stabilization and a built-in viewfinder. However, photographers can attach an optional 907X optical viewfinder for added convenience.

On the positive side, the CFV 100C embraces leaf shutters, offering impressive flash sync speeds. With a new hot shoe adapter, the camera is compatible with Nikon and Profoto flashes, giving photographers more creative freedom.

While the 907X/CFV 100C may have some trade-offs compared to the X2D 100C, it brings excitement with its vintage style and the ability to use Hasselblad lenses and cameras from bygone eras in the modern digital age. Compatibility with Hasselblad V System cameras and lenses released since 1957 adds a cool factor rarely seen in contemporary digital camera systems.
